L’ambassade de France au Niger est désormais fermée « jusqu’à nouvel ordre », indique le ministère franâis des Affaires étrangères.

Pour expliquer cette décision, la France évoque des « entraves rendant impossible l’exercice » des missions de l’ambassade, selon le communiqué.

La mission diplomatique poursuivra ses activités depuis Paris, les services consulaires seront pris en charge par les consulats français dans la région.

L’ambassadeur Sylvain Itté a quitté le Niger fin septembre. Son départ, ainsi que celui des troupes françaises, ont été exigés par les militaires venus au pouvoir à Niamey fin juillet.
